I just thought everyone should know that about me.

Finally back online…

After ‘user_["$DEITY"]‘ only knows how freakin’ long, I finally got WordPress back up and running on a box.
My old webserver shat itself mightily and monumentally, and it absolutely _had_ to do it while I was 3000 miles away in Ottawa, Ontario and couldn’t do a damned thing about it. I finally wound up having to bribe a coworker (Thanks, Lynn!! You’re a lifesaver!) into checking the old server out. Turns out it isn’t posting, and I can’t get it fixed until I get back in April sometime. I had data backed up _and_ a redundant mirrored array in the system, so I can get
all the old content back up eventually, but it involves moving hardware around to get at all the data so it’ll just have to keep for another month or so.

Any way, Canada is awesome as always. Damn, I wish I could live here. There is so much cultural diversity! And the food! And the people! They’re so much more tolerant and open-minded here. I love America and the freedom that we have, but we’re moving backwards as a nation instead of forwards. We have fewer liberties and less security than ever. The so-called Patriot Act has been renewed, the Constitution is regularly disregarded, and our economy is devastated by an unwinnable war against an enemy that noone can _REALLY_ identify other than to apply the label “Terror” to it. Just like all of our other “concept wars,” this is doomed to failure using conventional methods — “The War on Drugs,” “The War on Poverty,” “The War on AIDS,” and “The War on Terror” are all politically popular ideas that win votes but haven’t changed a single thing because they’ve failed to win hearts and minds.
